Zimbabwe unable to feed its population, UN to conduct a harambee

Following a hard drought that has affected about a third of Zimbabwe’s population, the United Nations on Thursday initiated a funds mobilization to feed the nation.

Rains have been scarce, and the maize yields went low. Maize is the staple food for the population of Zimbabwe.

The UN is looking for $234 million which it believes will help to address the situation. Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Mark Lowcock told correspondents in Harare.

Corn farmers said that the maize harvest, which begins in April, might be under 1 million tons contrasted and 1.7 million 2018, and the UN evaluated on Tuesday that 5.3 million Zimbabweans would require help.
