MPs blame Chebukati over loss of funds at the IEBC

The members of the August house now want Chebukati and his team to leave office over loss of Funds.

This comes after a report that was released by the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee detailing how money was lost at the electoral office leading to the removal of the then CEO Ezra Chiloba.

This, according to the report, should be the first step in dealing decisively with the rot that has become of the electoral agency.

The committee now blames six commissioners for the loss including their Chairman Wafula Chebukati, Consolata Maina, Margaret Mwachanya, Boya Molu, Abdi Guliye and Paul Kurgat.

However former commissioner Roselyn Akombe is missing from the list.Akombe resigned before the election runoff in 2017 where she claimed the commission was not able to deliver a credible repeat elections.

PAC has been holding hearings with former and current IEBC officials and suppliers for two months. This followed a special report by Auditor General Edward Ouko that identified possible loss of billions in tender games before and during the polls.
