Arsenal legend speaks on Ozil display against Bournemouth

Ian Wright reveals secret message in Ozil’s celebration of amazing goal against Bournemouth

Ian Wright hailed Mesut Ozil after the midfielder produced a stunning finish to open the scoring in Arsenal’s comprehensive 5-1 victory over Bournemouth. Ozil has been in and out of Unai Emery’s side this season but was recalled at the Emirates after making a substitute appearance against Southampton at the weekend.

It only took four minutes for Ozil to break the deadlock and the play maker also provided the assist for Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s goal, Arsenal’s second, in a classy individual performance. Lys Mousset’s strike on the half-hour mark gave Bournemouth a glimmer of hope but second-half goals from Laurent Koscielny, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette sealed a comfortable win for the Gunners.

Ozil brought back the bounced finish – which is fast becoming his trademark – to deceive Artur Boruc for Arsenal’s opening goal and Wright sung the German’s praises following the win. Like many Arsenal fans, Wright noticed how Ozil made his team-mates aware of the finish during his celebration.

Arsenal inside man reveals the major problem Mesut Ozil is facing at the Club

‘He kicks down on to the ball. He bounces it on purpose,’ the former Arsenal striker said on Match of the Day. He did it against Huddersfield and he kicked down on to it against Bournemouth. ‘Instead of chipping it over a keeper he bounces it over him. You can see him telling everyone what he did [while celebrating]. ‘It’s just such a brave finish for someone to do, it’s brilliant. It’s the Ozil.’

Emery was coy when asked whether Ozil was likely to start the north London derby this weekend. ‘I am going to watch this match for analysis and I am going to watch Tottenham. After I will decide my game plan against them,’ the Spaniard said after the win. ‘We need every player and every player on the bench and we need big commitment from every player. If we can play with a big performance I want every player to help us.’

German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil is “really happy” at Arsenal, Unai Emery and his coaching staff are satisfied with him and there is no sign of a summer move being planned, says David Hillier. The German play-maker continues to spark talk of a summer transfer, but David Hillier believes the player and his manager are working well together.

“First of all, I’ll say that Mesut Ozil, if you are privy to some of the videos and the training ground stuff that I see, the way that he is with the lads and the way that he conducts himself – it’s like none of this is happening to him. He’s really happy and all the players are happy with him and the staff and the managers are all happy with him.”
