Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne named his 24 man squad to face Ghana in an AFCON qualifier next month and Kenyans could not believe it when some key players were not named.

First on the list of those omitted is ZESCO United striker Jesse Were. Were has not had a good run in the national team, having never scored a goal in more than 20 appearances.

However he has been instrumental for his club and is currently ZESCO’s all time leading top scorer with more than 65 goals in less than three years.

Were is enjoying game time in Zambia and his experience in the CAF competitions is also valuable. He is better than Masud Juma.

Another notable absentee is dependable left back Abud Omar. Omar has been a mainstay in the team and played the three crucial matches against Ghana and the Ethiopia double header.

Most of the players called up on Thursday will likely form the core of the team that will travel to Egypt. Abud and Were will feel hard done if they don’t travel for the tournament.
