ODM leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday held a closed door meeting with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Tuesday where they discussed how their two parties would win the Wajir West parliamentary seat.

Lawmakers who were in attendance also revealed that the two leaders talked about how they would work together in the highly anticipated 2022 general elections.

Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed also stated that Odinga and Moi delibarated on the current political situation in the country but he did not give more details.

The legislators who attended the meeting expressed their support for the two leaders coming together in a move which could see either ODM or Kanu drop their candidate for the upcoming by-election in Wajir West constituency.

Tiaty MP William Kamket who has been urging the two leaders to come together said that the Wajir West by-election unity will be extended to 2022 between the two leaders.

“They explored ways of working together in the Wajir West by-election and the deal will be extended towards working together in the referendum and the 2022 election,” Mr Kamket said.

Divulging more details on the meeting, Kanu Secretary-General Nick Salat said that Moi and Odinga also discussed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and the highly anticipated referendum.

“The meeting was about the Building Bridges Initiative. Some of us pushing for a referendum don’t want to prolong it so we want to developed consensus so that we don’t subject Kenyans to an acrimonious campaign,” Mr Salat said.

Salat also noted that the country was not prepared for rigorous campaigns like the ones witnessed during the 2005 and 2010 referendum.
