Nurses Resume Work After Striking For 3 Weeks

Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Nurses Seth Panyako has told the court that the countrywide nurses’ strike has been called off. He was in court on Tuesday to show cause why he should not be held in contempt for disobeying orders stopping the nurses strike that had paralyzed work for the past 3 weeks.

Panyako told Justice Nelson Abuodha that the strike was called off and further defended himself alleging that he was never served with the court papers. The judge cautioned him not to disobey court orders in future.

The out spoken secretary general insisted that they have only suspended the strike to pave way for the ongoing reconciliation with governors but have not called it off altogether. He warned that no one is above the law in Kenya. “Even the president is not above the law. You cannot wake up and fire the employees,” said Panyako.
