Kenya Red Cross has reported that construction of the pleasant homes for the 37 families that survived the Solai dam tragedy are in the completion stage.
Speaking to the area residents on Monday, Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Dr Abbas Gullet assured the residents that they will soon move into the cosy houses.
“In a few weeks to come, all the 37 houses that we had started to construct in Solai with funding from the Kenyan Government will be completed,” the Secretary-General affirmed.
The international NGO had partnered with the Kenyan Government to roll out a shelter reconstruction programme in the area to support the families.
The construction of the 37 houses for the families affected by the Solai tragedy began in 2018.
The house designs had been developed and approved by the Nakuru County government, which had partnered with the Red Cross Society, to help the victims rebuild their lives.
On May 9, 2018, the man-made dam within the vast Patel Coffee Estates located in Solai, Nakuru, broke its banks gushing out 190 million litres of water through settlements, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
This is kuddos for the good work Kenya Red Cross has been doing to disaster victims.
