Detectives have unearthed a heap of records that points to payments worth Sh12.7 billion which were used by NHIF staff to enlist fake patients for payouts.
Some NHIF staff have been interrogated and more are waiting to be investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), whose chief, George Kinoti portrayed the outrage as an enormous sham.
Reports indicate that NHIF received about Sh.8 billion in financial year 2017/2018, part of which was later looted in the scam.
