Kilimani police are investigating a case of a Form Three student who is said to have committed suicide in a toilet at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital. The 17-year-old had been admitted to the hospital on Friday complaining of pain in the stomach and vomiting but the of the pregnancy turned positive and officials say this might have prompted her to kill herself.
According to preliminary findings, scans had revealed that she was nine weeks pregnant only to find her hanging in a toiled on Saturday afternoon. “This seemed to have shocked her and we believe it led to the unfortunate incident,” said an official.
Police were called and the body was taken to the mortuary after her parents were informed of the incident and Kilimani OCPD Micheal Muchiri says the matter is under investigation. The incident comes just weeks after a Form Three student committed suicide at Butere Girls High School in Kakamega County. The girl’s body was found hanging from the dormitory roof with a suicide note believed to have been authored by her.
