Legendary Kenyan athlete Nyantika Maiyoro is dead. The 88-year-old breathed his last at exactly 8.51 pm on Sunday. His son Ken Rodgers Nyandika has confirmed the death. “What you have heard is true. We are mourning,” he said.
The track legend was admitted at the Christamarianne Hospital in Kisii, where he was diagnosed with tuberculosis last Monday.Last week, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i promised to clear all hospital bills for the ailing legendary.
Before his death, he had appealed to have his “stolen” land returned even as he battled tuberculosis in hospital. Mairoyo was concerned that people he declined to name had grabbed his seven-acre piece of land in Nyamira.
