Will AFC Leopards claw back at Machakos

Bandari seek to extend stay at the top with home win against Nzoia.
Mathare United and AFC Leopards will be seeking to end their winless streak in the SportPesa Premier League when the two sides clash at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos today.

The 4.15pm encounter will be preceded by an early kickoff between Posta Rangers and Ulinzi Stars.

Though both Mathare and AFC have gone five matches without a win, they are in contrasting positions on the table standings.

While struggling AFC dropped to the 17th spot after losing their last five consecutive matches, the Slum Boys were knocked off the summit after being frustrated to a barren draw by Zoo Kericho last weekend.

This was Mathare’s third draw since beating Vihiga United 3-1 at Kasarani Stadium last month.

And just like Leopards, Mathare are in desperate need for a new breath of life in the season.

As Francis Kimanzi’s men will be aiming to get back to winning ways, league leaders Bandari (28) will be out to extend their stay at the top when they welcome Nzoia Sugar at Mbaraki Stadium.

But it is Leopards who are more desperate for the maximum points as they look to move away from the unfamiliar relegation zone.

“We don’t deserve to be where we are right now. As players, we are trying our best to lift the team from that position. There is a lot of pressure, but we will continue pushing ourselves until we get out of that situation,” said AFC Leopards midfielder Whvyonne Isuza ahead of the reunion with his former club.

Despite stunning AFC Leopards 1-0 to end their six games winless run, Ulinzi Stars coach Dunstan Nyaudo is wary of the threat posed by fast-improving Posta Rangers.

“Posta Rangers is another team that has been struggling like us. It is a team that you cannot just approach anyhow. We will approach that match with utmost seriousness. If we win that game, then expect us to win our next 4-5 matches,” said Nyaudo.

For KCB’s Frank Ouna, their trip to Chemelil Sugar is a perfect opportunity to bounce back to winning ways.

“It is unfortunate that our eight-game unbeaten run came to an end against Sony Sugar. But I think that at one point, it had to end and such records are there in football to be broken.”
