Relief As Nurses In Busia County Join The Call Off Strike Deal

Nurses in Busia County have called off their strike to give the on-going reconciliation talks a chance. This comes after nurses across over 10 counties have called off the strike despite no retreat, no surrender calls from the national union.

The move was reached on Friday evening following successful talks between the branch Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) officials and the County Government led by Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi. Addressing the press after the talks, Mulomi who is also acting Health Executive said the county government has initiated the issuance of promotion letters which will be concluded on April 4, 2019.

He said that the County government shall permit and facilitate nurses who wish to join Lap fund to do so voluntarily and that the list of Economic Stimulus Program staff absorbed by his government will be submitted to the National government for payment of their gratuity. “The County government agreed to establish the office of Director of Nursing through following all laid down procedures and in accordance with scheme of service of nurses.” He noted

Hon Mulomi said no striking nurses will be victimized for participating in the strike, adding that the union had agreed to suspend the strike from February 25th, 2019 to 20th April, 2019 as per the court order.
