Mathare hospital senior assistant director of medical services Georgina Wangui Kamunge has been arrested over graft allegations.

EACC detectives arrested Kamunge following allegations that she demanded Sh5,000 bribe from firearm owner seeking psychiatric evaluation reports from the hospital for the ongoing vetting of licensed firearms.

The commission on its Twitter handle on Friday said its officers received complaints from gun owners seeking the said evaluation reports.

The holders said the process was marred with gross corruption.

“We conducted covert operations at the hospital where we obtained recordings of the bribe demands by the suspect and others,” it said.

EACC said the hospital declined to issue receipts against the obtained amount.

Following the arrest, the psychiatric evaluation exercise at the hospital has since been suspended until further notice.
