Why DP Ruto gave empty promise to Harambee Stars

The sports ministry has affirmed that the state will support the national soccer team’s arrangements for the almost near Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), yet is wary about when the players will get the Sh50 million guaranteed by William Ruto, the Deputy President

Still this year, it is uncertain whether the van that was guaranteed to the group in the wake of winning the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in December 2017 will be given.

Addressing scribes Sports Principal Secretary Kirimi Kaberia Friday (22 Feb) affirmed that a financial plan of Sh242 million has been put aside for teams’ Afcon arrangements.

With this cash, Kaberia said the state will facilitate the team’s three-week preparing camp in France before the challenge.

Kaberia was making g careful effort to clarify whether the Sh50 million, which was a vow by Ruto to the team two months prior was for boosting the group to meet all requirements for Afcon, was calculated in the Sh242 million or would be given over to the players independently.

“The administration will cook for all of Stars arrangements, including the pre-competition camp in France or wherever else they go. We have a financial plan of Sh240 million that will guarantee that the players get all the help they require.
