Emotions have flied and many reactions witnessed following Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed’s announcement that the Higher Education Loans Board(HELB) will work with the police to hunt down 74,000 loan defaulters.
After NTV tweeted,”Helb to partner with police and other crime busters to hunt down over 74,000 loan defaulters; CS Amina Mohamed says Sh7.2bn yet to be repaid .”
Dennis Itumbi took to twitter to clarify the message correcting that Amina was referring to loan defaulters who are unemployed.This is after so many Kenyans have protested the move with the defense that they are unemployed hence cannot pay the debt.
Dennis Itumbi has also stated the the loan defaulters should own up to their debts. “defaulters with a job’ – That qualification is very important. Surely if you have income, pay off and have another Kenyan benefit,” he tweeted.
