Manchester United host Liverpool on Sunday in a bid to push for a higher spot up the league standings and also stymie the opposition’s run-up to the Premier League title. As usual, there are duels that would be expected to define the clash.

One of those is David De Gea against Alison Becker. Although United fans (just like any other normal fans) rate goalkeepers for their ability to save the team when needed, Sky Sports are desperate for some ‘fairer’ comparison so they include attacking duties in the graph below:

So to elaborate:

• Sequences – unique pass sequences of 10+ that a player was involved in;

• Ending in a shot – the number those open play sequences ending in a shot;

• Ending in a goal – the number of those open play sequences ending in a goal;

• xG of sequences – the summed xG of the shots taken from those sequences.

Alison is indeed a better ball distributor than De Gea which is also reflected in their passing stats: 79.5 per cent passing accuracy against 59.2. De Gea is mostly let down by his average stats because under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he does pass the ball better and more often than under Jose Mourinho. At the World Cup with Spain, his pass success was 76.8 per cent.
