Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a welcome boost with the news that Harry Kane could be back from an ankle ligament injury in time to face Burnley this weekend.

The England skipper is ahead of schedule in his comeback providing a timely boost to Mauricio Pochettino who has had to make do without Kane since he was injured during the defeat to Manchester United on January 13.

Spurs have impressed in Kane’s absence with Heung-Min Son stepping up to the plate with goals in four consecutive games since returning from the Asian Cup. There has also been a big contribution from Fernando Llorente, chipping in with three goals in seven games.

Kane was involved in Spurs’ training session on Monday as he continued his recovery from ankle ligament damage, raising hopes that he could play against Burnley this weekend. Originally it was feared that Kane wouldn’t feature until March.

Pochettino could err on the side of caution and name Kane on the bench at Turf Moor given that Spurs face Chelsea a few days later. The North London derby is also around the corner on March 2 as well as the Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund three days later. On March 9, Spurs are away at Southampton but after that it’s a long wait until their next game at Liverpool on March 31.

Despite the positive news about Kane, there has been no update on the fitness of another of Spurs’ key players Dele Alli who remains sidelined with a hamstring problem.
