One of The Most Prestigious Schools in Kenya Closing Soon

GEMS Cambridge International School, a sophisticated international school owned by a Dubai-based group, is said to be closing after six years of operating in Kenya.

The prestigious school situated along Magadi Road a few meters from yet another international school ‘’Banda School’’ is elegantly build featuring well manicured gardens and a neat serene environment.

The facility was constructed at cost of Ksh 3 billion by a separate developer and the management has therefore been paying Ksh200 million in annual rent.

The decision to close the school is a cost-cutting strategy, will have 200 students transfer from GEMS to Hillcrest International School, which is also owned by a Dubai-Based investor.

Hillcrest has a population of 1000 students and it’s among the most expensive and prestigious schools featuring millions in their fees structures as school fees

The changes have effects on the employees as they are at the verge of losing their jobs. In 2015, the institute had selected Kenya as its headquarters for Africa operations, with plans to set up other schools in Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria.

The school has exclusive amenities such as a half Olympic-size swimming pool, a 400m all-weather running track, cricket nets and playing fields which complement the indoor sports arena and a multi-purpose hall that includes a drama and dance studio.

GEMS has had strategic partnerships with Foundations of former US President Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, Bill Gates and the World Economic Forum.
