Why Moses Kuria’s move to kill Duale’s career might be successful

Just recently, the Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria tabled a bill in Prliament seeking to oust National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale from his position. Will this move go through? Well, Members of Parliament are set to lose some of the powerful positions they occupy at the National Assembly.

The reorganisation of House Committees that is set to take place anytime has sent shivers among legislators.

Speaking to Nation, Minority Leader John Mbadi stated that the NASA coalition was already reviewing their members in preparation.

“The changes will be done anytime and they will not be vindictive. Our whip has received committee attendance lists which will be the guiding factor in the changes,” Mbadi told reporters.

He added: “We want competence in committees not just where people go and sign for allowances and leave.”

The looming changes are also expected to be made in accordance with expediting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s agenda which is often frustrated by interests within committees.

In January, the Head of State met parliamentary leadership in Mombasa to discuss the government’s agenda for the August House.

Top of Parliament’s agenda is finding a suitable replacement for outgoing Police Inspector General Joseph Boinnet and the Division of Revenue Bill.

The house will also discuss the contents of the deal with China that saw the government put up the port of Mombasa as collateral for the funding of the SGR.

The country also requires a referendum law, the census law and an amendment to the Electoral Act on the appointment of new commissioners whenever there is a vacancy.
