It’s Official: NAKURU is the RICHEST COUNTY in Kenya After Nairobi!

Is this Nakuru or Nairobi? Hard to tell…

There’s something about Nakuru County that reminds me of a movie.

You know, the kind where the struggling protagonist suffers mercilessly under the hands of his enemies but eventually prevails at the end.

Say if like Nakuru County was the scrawny little kid bullied by the big boys; Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa.

Only to later learn jujitsu and thrash them in a final showdown that will leave one, for lack of a better word, flabbergasted.

Ahh…this is why we love Nakuru!

Perhaps this final showdown is much closer than one might think, considering the devolved units rank placed Nakuru as the second richest county; albeit far from the heels of the Big Apple!

The ranking, which analyzed key factors such as market value of goods, GDP,  Tourism, and Farming, divulged that Nakuru contributed to 6.1% of the country’s GDP.

Carried out by the World Bank, the Gross County Product (GCP) 2019 officially crowned Nakuru as the second richest county in the country. (rhyme sense)

And from the ground perspective, Nakuru residents are begin to fill the positive rippling effects of smart investments.

During the festive season, I had the opportunity to grace this expansive county as I headed towards the land of milk and honey. Or as others would call it, ocha.

Indeed, Nakuru has been able to disentangle itself seamlessly from the deep-rooted vines of agricultural dependency, and flourish as a bustling tourist and business sector.

As a matter of fact, a large chunk of the county’s growth has been attributed to tourism, with most of the country’s major events and conferences being held n Naivasha.

Perhaps it’s time to believe the hype; Nakuru might just be the Las Vegas of Kenya.
