Idriss’ depressed family speaks out

Idriss Mukhtar, theĀ  former Garissa Finance county executive’s family has spoken on their struggles taking care of the former CEC. Idress has been in a coma for about six months after he was shot and a bullet was left lodged in his head. Dr Aden Mukhtar, father to Idriss, expressed his bitterness that elders from Garissa are persuading him to stop pursuing justice for his bed-ridden son; ”With my son lying like this? Then some people with an unknown agenda are here asking me to go to the negotiating table? I will not. We turned this room into a temporary intensive care unit, and it is from here that we hope he will one day gain consciousness and finally get back his life. It is expensive for the family but we have no option but to keep our son alive.”

Idriss has had been receiving treatment in India but the doctors recommended home care for him and he returned to Kenya on January 21 after there was no improvement in his condition.

Idriss was shot in Kileleshwa while in his car and Governor Ali Korane was arrested in connection with the hit. One suspect, David Mwai confessed to having been hired to assassinate him by injecting with hydrogen peroxide which induces a heart attack or stroke. He was later told to kill him after he failed to get an opportunity to inject him for three weeks. The suspect was later alleged to have hanged himself at a bathroom in Parklands police station. Two other suspects were later aligned in court on charges of the matter and later released on bail.
