Waiguru, Ngirici Supporters Clash in Kirinyaga Again

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was forced to cancel her meeting after unruly youth allegedly associated with the county’s women rep Purity Ngirici stormed the venue.

The Governor was expected to give Ksh16 million from Women Enterprise Fund (WEF) to 16 women groups at Kerugoya Catholic Church Hall.

Before she arrived, Ngirici stormed the venue with her followers in town and tore away banners claiming that the meeting was illegal.

Speaking to members of the press, the women rep further accused the organizers of undermining her by not inviting her to the function claiming that WEF was part of her docket.

Former Nairobi women rep and Cabinet Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service Rachel Shebesh was among the women expected to attend the function.

Waiguru had, however, not arrived at the venue and so was forced to cancel after chaos erupted. this is the second time Purity Ngirici  is doing it after she disrupted a meeting in 2018 where deputy president was attending.

Close to 700 women had turned up for the meeting before the disturbance arose and some of the county officials, who were present, were forced to run to safety.

County commissioner Sam Onjwang, however, arrived at the venue, together with Kirinyaga Police commander Leah Kithii, and restored peace at the meeting before calling it off entirely.

Waiguru, through her communications office, expressed her regret that an elected leader could cause disorder at an event aimed at benefitting residents.

“In this day and age such things should not be happening in politics, we need to work as a team but some elected leaders are going around to stall development for personal gain,’’ stated Waiguru.

Waiguru and Ngirici, who were once close friends, have been fighing since the 2017 elections.
