Police to offer security in public hospitals for nurses to resume duty

Security will  be beefed up at public hospitals  on Friday 15th February 2019 to ensure that  nurses who wish to resume duty do so undisturbed.

The Police have made this announcement following the instructions by H.E. The President to all nurses in public hospitals who are on strike to comply with the Court Order & resume duty without fail by Friday

National Police Service made it clear that commanders have been instructed to ensure that they provide security and a calm environment for nurses who will be resuming duty.

The police also noted that  anyone acting in breach of the Public Order Act will be dealt with firmly.

During a public address  yesterday, President Kenyatta  stated that it is greatly disheartening to learn that some of the nurses decided to engage in unlawful withdrawal of their labour against the determination of the Employment and Labour Relations Court, which suspended any industrial action for sixty days pending conciliation meetings.

The head of state added that as the National and County Governments, they have a cardinal responsibility to provide adequate and accessible health care to all Kenyans.

Kenyatta then directed that all nurses should resume duty with immediate effect, and in any case, not later than  Friday 15th February 2019.

The President also mentioned that the respective County Governments will be at liberty to undertake any action, as they deem appropriate, against personnel who fail to resume duty as directed by the Employment and Labour Relations Court.

“We have a clear development agenda. As an investment destination, and a Government that seeks to provide services to her people, we cannot allow unlawful industrial actions to derail us from our focus of taking Kenya forward” he said
