In the aftermath of Sunday’s 6-0 mauling by Man City, there have been numerous stories about the Chelsea squad and their detachment from the manager Maurizio Sarri.

Sarri set his team up more defensively in last Sunday’s defeat, opting to use the counter-attack against an equally as possession-orientated side in City.

But Pedro admits he struggled to adapt to that system, insisting he prefers to get stuck in to the action throughout the match.

“I prefer to press high and to stay close to the target when we recover the ball to create chances, rather than wait 90 minutes to recover the ball and to run 60 metres to score the goal,” Pedro said.

Pedro was, however, adamant that things have been workmanlike at Chelsea this week rather than toxic.

“Never in my career, it is hard but now it is the past,” said Pedro at today’s news conference ahead on Thursday’s Europa League date with Malmo.

“It is difficult, it was probably the worst of the season. It is hard, it is so important tomorrow now. That is the past and it is good to get ready for tomorrow.”

Pedro went on to reject the notion that Chelsea suffer from a toxic dressing room, despite the club going through three managers in as many years.

“I think it is always difficult for every manager, when you arrive with good motivation and ambition. It’s not just in the Chelsea dressing-room. For all coaches, it’s difficult,” he said.

With the race for the top four hotting up every week, entry into next season’s Champions League is looking increasingly more tricky. Chelsea will look to bounce back from their weekend humbling on Thursday, when Malmo await in the Europa League last 32.

Reports indicate that Chelsea’s board are prepared to sack the Italian if and when it becomes apparent that the club will not qualify for the Champions League next season.
