Ilkay Gündogan Isn’t Willing To Commit To Manchester City

Ilkay Gündogan has been a hugely important play for Man City this season.

While not always a starter, Gündogan has made 21 appearances for City this season in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old German has played 90 minutes in City’s last three league games against Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea.

Gündogan has also scored five league goals and chipped in with two assists.

But for how much longer will Gündogan be with the Sky Blues?

The midfielder’s contract is up in 2020, and Gündogan has revealed in an interview with Sport Bild that he’s in no rush to agree new terms.

Gündogan is willing to play chicken with Man City by running down his contract to it’s expiration. The midfielder said:

It has now become the rule that there is a decision for a player who has another year contract period: separation or extension.

I’m a bit old-fashioned. For me it is also possible that I go to the last contract year and then extend.

It may well be that the next one will be my last big contract.

Such a decision must be well considered. We already had one or two talks. I do not feel pressure is on the subject.

Sportingly, I am very satisfied with City, as there are less attractive [clubs] in Europe. In this regard, nothing stands against an extension. But nothing is decided yet.
