Cancer patients to get a free treatment at Aga Khan hospital with NHIF

Aga Khan University Hospital has introduced Positron Emission Tomography Scans and becomes the first in the region to do so.

At the same time, National Hospital Insurance Fund NHIFThe National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) will fully cover the scanning costs for the patients.

Presently, patients from Kenya and neighbouring countries travel abroad for the treatment.

This comes as cancer continues to claim thousands of live every year, locally and globally.

The NHIF  subscribers will be saved at least Sh69,500 with this machine.

The head of Radiology department Sudhir Vinayak said confirmed that patient members of NHIF will not pay for the service.

Aga Khan hospital added that the cost was ‘moderate’ and was a reduction from the initially thought Sh100,000. In other countries, it costs much higher.
