‘Why I gave my son Nigerian name’ Socialite Bridget Achieng defends her choice

Voluptuous Kenyan socialite Bridget Achieng has finally shared with the world why she chose to name her newborn son Opeyemii, which is a Nigerian name. The socialite who doubles up as a reality TV star was forced to explain her choice after fans probed her on why she chose a foreign name yet there were plenty of local ones.

The questions started streaming in prior to her delivery and she did justice by addressing them in a video on her YouTube channel. According to the mother of one, she chose the name Opeyemii for her son because his father is Nigerian and would one day go back to his roots whether she likes it or not.

Explaining the name Sekani Rich Opeyemii, Bridget said the first one means Joy, the second wealth and the third one to represent her baby’s Nigerian roots.“Sekani is an Egyptian name meaning ‘joy’ and Sekani has brought me joy…

I called him ‘Rich’ because I want him to be rich, I don’t want him to lack anything. I want everything that is in this world he can acquire it,” she revealed. The lass added the fact that her baby daddy ditched her when she was only three months pregnant did not mean she should keep him out of his son’s life.

“I have given him Opeyemii because that is his father’s native name. I know many people will ask why you gave him the baby daddy’s name, but you know what? “He is a boy and he will have to go to his roots someday. Like I said, my baby will know everything, I will teach him everything, I will not (sugar) coat anything,” Bridget added.
