Manchester United boss threatens players after PSG loss

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has threatened to bench any Manchester United players caught sulking following Tuesday’s defeat to French side Paris Saint-Germain.

The United interim manager had presided over a run of 10 wins from 11 matches having taken over from Jose Mourinho in December, but his side was handed a Champions League reality check by the French champions at Old Trafford.

Thomas Tuchel’s makeshift side, without the likes of Edinson Cavani and Neymar, comfortably snuffed out a United forward line which has been rampant in recent weeks. PSG were well worth the two-goal advantage they secured ahead of the second leg thanks to goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe as Solskjaer was left to contemplate the first defeat of his tenure.

‘Don’t feel sorry for yourself,’ Solskjaer advised his players afterwards. ‘This is something to learn from. It was a level up from what we’re used to. That’s part of learning when you’re young. Many of our players are very young. It was the first time Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford will play a proper Champions League game at Old Trafford. Learn from that. Move forward. We have Chelsea and Liverpool in the next two games. Whoever feels sorry for themselves will not play probably.’

The player still has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal, however, according to GOLdigital, the Red Devils are believed to be considering a move for his signature in the summer. Barcelona may decide to entertain any offers for Uruguayan forward due to their desire to add younger world-class players to the first-team squad, although ex-Liverpool forward is unlikely to contemplate a controversial switch to Manchester United. The report claimed that a number of teams from China are also interested in securing services of Barcelona’s forward.
