City Mortuary a Dumping Facility For Murder Victims

Now, it is very easy to complete sentences such as, the body of’ ’anonymous name’’ who went missing on such a date has been found at……………… by quoting “city mortuary.”

Its barely a month ago when the body of a young lady Susan Njoki Maina was found lying on the same funeral parlor.
The news headlines read;

Missing MMU Alumni whose body was found at City Mortuary on January 8th

“A former Multimedia University student who went missing last year on December 27, was on Monday found dead at Nairobi’s City Mortuary… Her body was discovered at the mortuary after the family raised concern over her mysterious disappearance.‘’The family had reported her death on January 8 at Ongata Rongai Police Station after she went missing, two days after returning to Nairobi where she worked with a city public relations firm.”

On February 4th the drama continued to unfold as news hit the headlines reading;

” A week long search for the woman ended at the City Mortuary where her mangled body was found by her family.”Morgue attendants lifted the body out of the cold storage chamber and set it on top of a gurney, bringing the search for Ms Mildred Odira, who had been missing for six days, to an inexplicable end.

Caroline Mwatha whose body was found at city mortuary on February 12

Again on February 12, similar news emerged and as usual, the headlines read;

“The body of the founder member of Dandora Community Justice Centre Caroline Mwatha Ochieng’, who went missing on February 6, had been booked at the City Mortuary under a different name.

Apparently these two cases are used as case study to represent so many cases of bodies found at city mortuary and being revealed when alarms on the missing people are raised.

Kenyans have condemned such occurrences and now want action taken to probe the facility’s management.
Should city mortuary be the starting point of searching for missing persons?
