Activist Caroline Mwatha died procuring abortion

The National Police Service issued a statement indicating that human rights activist Caroline Mwatha died procuring abortion.

Police Officers confirmed that, Ms Mwatha was in constant communication with Alexander Gitau Gikonya in Isiolo, as they sought for a way to terminate Ms Mwatha’s five-month pregnancy, in which Gitau was responsible.

“It was further established that established that an unidentified doctor had demanded a fee of Ksh7,000 and after negotiations the cost was reduced to Ksh6,000 which was sent to the lady by Alexander,” says the police.

The botched abortion is said to have happened at New Njiru Community Centre within Dandora Phase I. The police say that the abortion was procured by the owner of the clinic Betty Akinyi alias Betty Ramoya and Dr Mike Onchiri.

Police say that Ms Mwatha died at the clinic and the body transferred to Nairobi City Mortuary where she was booked under the private category by a man who claimed to be her husband. The body was booked under the name Carol Mbeki under the tag number 1495.

So far, six suspects have been arrested including Betty Akinyi, Richard Ramoya, Georgia Achieng, Michael Onchiri, Alexander Gitau and an Uber driver Stephen Maina.

Caroline Mwatha is just the latest person whose controversial murder is being blamed on a love-triangle gone wrong. Others are Chris Msando and Jacob Juma whose deaths were carefully blamed on women.

Seems like the police is pointing that Caroline Mwatha had an extra-marital affair, hence the urgent need for abortion.

Mwatha went missing February 6.

Her husband Joshua Ochieng said that they had communicated as usual last week on WhatsApp. He said that he had attempted to call her mobile phone which someone picked but did not speak. He assumed that his wife was in a meeting.
