In a bid to ensure transparency and public involvement in the budget making process, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has set aside a whole week for the exercise where Nairobi City County residents have an opportunity to participate in this year’s budget making process.

Sonko said this will ensure that the public has a voice for all the county projects that will be implemented in the 2019/2020 fiscal year.

Sonko said Monday that pursuant to the provisions of Article 220 (2) of the Constitution of Kenya as read together with section 117 (1)-(5) of the Public Finance Management Act 2012, the Nairobi City County seeks to formulate the Fiscal Strategy for the period 2019/20.

“We therefore invite members of the Public, Civil Society Organizations, Faith Based Organizations and the Private Sector practitioners to participate in the process.

Consultative forums have been scheduled in all the 17 sub-counties,” said Sonko.

This is the second time the Nairobi City County is publicly holding such forums for the public since 2013.

Sonko has also directed members of the public to submit written memoranda to the Office of the County Secretary and Head of County Public Service at City Hall.
