Since its inception in 1959, the Grammys stands out in USA as the real awards-season wild card, the show that has more potential than any of the TV and movie celebrations. They are awards presented to recognize achievements in the American music industry. The annual presentation ceremony features performances by prominent artists, and the presentation of those awards that have a more popular interest.

This years show was hosted by the musical genius that is Alicia Keys who candidly noted at the beginning of the show, “Music is what we cry to, it’s what we march to, it’s what we rock to, it’s what we make love to…It’s our shared global language and when you really want to say something, you say it with a song.”

In the top categories, Childish Gambino took home four Grammys including song of the year and record of the year for “This Is America”; Dua Lipa won best new artist; and Drake claimed best rap song for “God’s Plan.”

None other than the beautiful talented Cardi B  became the first-ever solo female artist to win a grammy for Best Rap Album, for her studio debut Invasion of Privacy during Sunday night’s star-studded ceremony. She was joined onstage by her rapper beau Offset, who held her hand as she held back tears and took some deep breaths while thanking those who made her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, a work of art.

“I can’t breath. Oh my goodness. The nerves are so bad!” Cardi shared onstage, adding with a laugh, “Maybe I need to smart smoking weed.” She then gushingly gave a heartwarming shout out to her baby girl Kulture.

Ariana Grande claimed a Grammy win in the pop vocal category and Greta Van Fleet nabbed a win in the best rock album category. And Chris Cornell won a posthumous honor for best rock performance on the song “When Bad Does Good.”

Lady Gaga earned three Grammy Awards, winning best pop solo performance for “Joanne (Where Do You Think You’re Goin’?),” best song written for visual media for “Shallow” and best pop duo/group performance for the same A Star Is Born song (shared with Bradley Cooper).

Kacey Musgraves took home the top honor at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday night, winning album of the year for Golden Hour along with three other nods: best country album, best country song for “Space Cowboy” and best country solo performance for “Butterflies.”

Brandi Carlile picked up three Grammy Awards, for best American roots performance for “The Joke,” best American roots song for the same title and best Americana album for By the Way, I Forgive You.

The 2019 Grammy Awards telecast included a star-studded tribute to Dolly Parton featuring Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Musgraves, Maren Morris and Little Big Town. Heading into the night, the most nominated artists included Kendrick Lamar (eight), Drake (seven), Boi-1Da and Brandi Carlile (six each); and Mike Bozzi, Cardi B, Childish Gambino, H.E.R., Maren Morris and Sounwave (five each).
