“One man army” Okiya Omtatah in Court to challenge Uhuru’s latest state appointments

Kenyans do call him a one man army, and indeed he has been proving this.  Activist Okiya Omtatah has in the recent past not let any move by government that seems to hurt Kenyans go. by obtaining Court orders, he has been able to fight for people’s rights. The activist has gone to court to challenge the latest state appointments by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Omtatah argues that they have not been done on merit as had been directed by the court.

Omtatah is seeking to quash the appointments to Boards of State Corporations made on February 4 and 8, 2019 by the Executive. A week ago, the employment court ordered that all state appointment should be done on merit.

In the latest appointments, Sports legend Paul Tergat was appointed chairperson Kenya Academy of Sports Council. Former Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu was appointed the chairperson of the Water Services Resource Board for the next three years. Jared Gwaka, a close associate of Migori Governor Okoth Obado was also appointment to the board of Kenya Institute of Mass Communication despite graft charges facing him in the alleged loss of Ksh 2 billion from Migori County.

Former Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu, a critic of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, will chair the Water Resource Authority.

ODM treasurer Olga Karani has been appointed the chairperson of the Council of Kenya Cultural Centre. All the appointments in a Gazette notice are said to be effected between February 7 and 8.
