Pep Guardiola reveals new plan in bid to get the best out of De Bruyne

Pep Guardiola wants to get the most out of Kevin de Bruyne

Having regained their place at the top of the Premier League, Manchester City now turn their attentions to Chelsea.

Maurizio Sarri’s team were the first to beat City this season in December and will be looking to complete a double and improve their top four chances.

The sky blues play Newport in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup in the coming weeks so a league win on Sunday would stand them in good stead.

Pep Guardiola was asked about Sarri and the season he’s had so far. “Everyone must work and create something,” he said. “When I saw Chelsea in pre-season in charity shield, they were already there, I think the season from Chelsea has been exceptional, the PL is there, they have a chance to be Champions, a lot of games to play and the cup is there as well, I see how they play and recognise what they want to so.

“I met him (Sarri) when we played against Napoli and I was so encouraged, winning in Italy is not easy because it’s so solid in the last few years but made more than any points, I met him when we played against them.”

Guardiola was asked about whether Kevin de Bruyne is no longer a must pick. “We try to control the players he played the last two games,” he said. “He played as much as possible he went give mins for extra time he was incredible. Sometimes when you have a long injury you have to make a decision.

“I didn’t want to give him games, games, games, after injuries. Tomorrow we will play a game and some important players will not play. It’s quite possible he might not play against Chelsea everyone knows that. we judge the players on who they are, there are moment their team mates are in better condition than them.”
