Man City Defender Benjamin Mendy Responds To Pep Guardiola With Instagram Live

Benjamin Mendy went live on Instagram to prove his whereabouts after Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola responded with dismay at the suggestion that the defender was in Hong Kong.

Mendy posted an Instagram story on Friday morning with the location tagged at Hong Kong International Airport and, when Guardiola was asked about the defender’s apparent Far East trip, the City boss was sent into panic.

“Wow,” he said. “I didn’t know it! F***, he’s a lucky guy!”

“Before, he said I’m going for a day to Paris. That is fine, it is here but Hong Kong is far away. I don’t know. I have to install Instagram on my account to control my players because I don’t know!

“Yesterday he was in Barcelona.”

But Mendy posted on Twitter to confirm that the Instagram story was posted in jest.

“It was just joking with my uber driver I dont want no problems Pep [sic],” read the 24-year-old’s tweet.

And, to further prove that he was in fact in Barcelona, Mendy posted a live Instagram video in the Catalonian city, capturing images of local street signs and car number plates to verify his location.

Mendy’s France international Antoine Griezmann commented, saying: “Where are you now?”

It is not the first time the France international has landed himself in hot water with Guardiola over his social media activity.

“Mendy has a lot of things to improve,” Guardiola said after City’s 2-0 Premier League victory at Arsenal on the Premier League season’s opening weekend.

“Hopefully we can convince him to be calm, to forget a little bit the social media and focus on what he has to do.”
