Governor Nanok reveals  plan to boost tourism sector in Turkana

 

Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok has  revealed the plans to form a joint team from the Ministry of Tourism and  Turkana county inorder to create a masterplan to grow tourism in the county.

Josphat Nanok said that this plan will provide basis for partnership with the private sector.

This decision was reached upon after he held talks with the tourism CS Najib Balalaa.

The  two, had engagements on ways to grow the tourism industry in Turkana and strengthen conservation of their national parks and reserves.

CS Najib Balala and the governor  agreed on need to develop the massive tourism potential of Turkan, based on our community’s rich cultural heritage, fossil discoveries on human evolution and under-explored beaches of Lake Turkana.

They also met with representatives from the hotel industry in Turkana at the .

Josphat Nanok said that while the industry has witnessed an impressive growth in the past five years, support is required to improve standards of services and contribute to creating an unforgettable experience for visitors.

The Governor made it clear that their intention is to make Turkana be a contributor to the Kenyan economy.

For so long the county has been known for being consumers of the efforts of other counties and Josphat Nanok says that this will have to change.

The  governor stated that their revenue  contribution will go a long way to building and transforming the county.
