Comrades Unite! Jkuat comrades excercise their power for one of their own

Comrade power is not dead, if anything, it is far from it! It is still as alive as it was over 20 years ago when we had politically conscious student leaders. Although the call to action for many Kenyan students has since evolved with the times, it remains a uniting source of strength for each one of their rights.

It is no secret the power strength in numbers holds and the Kenyan students from  Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) today took to the streets to peacefully demonstate the brutal murder of a first year student by the name Tabitha.

A first-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) was stabbed to death on Thursday night as she resisted robbers.

She was walking together with a friend near Segal Hotel at 8pm when they were confronted by thugs who demanded their mobile phones. On putting up a resistance despite a complying friend, a confrontation ensued.

These would have been among Tabitha’s last acts of defiance in the world as the thugs callously stabbed her on the neck before the fleeing. The stabbed student was rushed to Jkuat hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her wounds.

Students union officials organised for a demonstration today to protest alarming insecurity at the institution. They called to all the student’s to take up arms to protest the murder and demand for answers.

“This is to inform all students that we will be having a peaceful demonstration in Juja Enviros. Following series of killings, most recent having been on 7th Feb 2019 at Segal Hotel,” the notice read.

Students have since take up to the streets of Juja to demonstrate. they have blocked Thika highway with residents being advised to take alterative routes.

Comrades all over the country have joined them on social media platforms to show their support and seek justice for their ‘fallen heroine’. This has been a necessary move following the preceding death cases of students in the institution.

In May, 2018, a student from the same institution was stabbed to death after he alighted in Juja from a meet-up with friends as he was headed to his house near the institution.
