Patients in the past have expressed concern over their limited access to free medical services as they have been consistently referred to private facilities. The Machakos governor undertook raiding several medical dens in the county following reports the main county hospital was lacking in resources . It was since established a cartel was siphoning medicine from the main hospital and supplying the private clinics.
The four people arrested were at Lugphram clinic, which is opposite the Machakos Level 5 Hospital, where theatre equipment and drugs with GOK label were seized. The owner of the clinic was unable to explain how the drugs were acquired to their possession. An underqualified person was also found working as a clinical officer in the private clinic.
Mutua, proceeded to inspect the government hospital and assured those found to have helped the suspects that they would face the law.
“We have found X-ray equipment from Level 5 Hospital and government drugs in a private clinic and people claim that Universal Health Care doesn’t work because there are no drugs,”remarked the Machakos Governor.
The governor further affirmed that the required supplies of drugs were given by the government to the hospitals but ended up being stolen.
