Manchester United’s star Marcus Rashford could be headed to Barcelona soon. Former Barcelona star Patrick Kluivert believes that the striker would be an ideal long-term addition at Camp Nou to replace Luis Suarez.
Rashford has thrived since Jose Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United, and has become a regular starter. He has scored six goals in 10 matches, including the early winner in Sunday’s tense 1-0 victory at Leicester.
Kluivert, who famously snubbed a move to United in 1998 before opting to sign for Barca, believes that the English striker has what it takes to flourish at Camp Nou but admits it would be a tall order to prise him away from Manchester.
“I like Marcus Rashford, a lot,” he told sport360. “It will be really difficult to get him over.
“But he is a good player.
“I don’t see a lot of players who can play in Barcelona. Aubameyang, perhaps he can play.
“There is not a lot. Maybe some players who can play in La Liga, young players.
“But for me, I think the best one is Marcus Rashford,” adds Kluivert.
When asked whether he has the potential to thrive in Catalonia, he added:“He has got the skills, the attitude, he’s quick, he’s fast, he can score goals.
“He is not always in the first XI at Manchester United and maybe he wants to change club. So why not?”
However, Barcelona have no issues in the attacking department at present with attacking linchpin Lionel Messi supported by the likes of central striker Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele and Malcom.
Barca will, however, be looking to strengthen that department soon with both Messi and Suarez now in their 30s.
Rashford’s performance since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival in December have dramatically improved. The 21-year old is tied down at Old Trafford until 2020 with reports of a new contract that will see his wages doubled circulating.
