Revealed; Details of the first cabinet meeting with Matiangi as chair

The first Cabinet Secretaries meeting held in Harambee House Under Fred Matiangi. Matiangi was mandated to provide supervisory leadership in the delivery of all government programmes and projects and will directly report to the President.

It was all systems go yesterday at Harambee House as Cabinet Secretaries recorded  hundred percent attendance in a first cabinet meeting chaired and convened by CS Dr. Fred Matiangi which ran smoothly for the better part of the morning among speculations of his erection to the ‘Super CS’ position.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i gave an ultimate order to all cabinet secretaries as he chaired the first cabinet meeting.The CSs were directed to compile lists of all the the government projects to be completed in three months and those to be probed.

He also said to have gone ahead to issue a 90-day ultimatum to government contractors to complete stalled projects as it emerged during the conclave, that most multi-billion shilling projects have stalled because contractors were fleeced by unscrupulous government officials.

The contractors were also directed to name the government officials they bribed if that be the reason for questionable contract sum variations and delay.

The meeting also focused on a massive sweep on contractors who have stalled projects and projects where applications for contracts variations are the reason for stalling.

“The committee identified the challenges constraining effective execution and delivery and will provide a weekly report to the President with recommendations on how to address them,” read an official statement.

The inaugural Cabinet committee sought to streamline multi-billion shilling projects in various ministries in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four agenda.

“Everybody was given an opportunity to outline all projects and programmes, their present status, timelines for completion and those stalled,” a source revealed.

Resolutions of the meeting are to be communicated to the counties, where officials will be asked to explain the status of the projects.

It was the first full meeting of the National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee since President Uhuru issued the executive order.

Present in the sitting also were,Attorney General Kihara Kariuki and the Head of the Public Service Joseph Kinyua.
