Pastor Gomeri accused of taking advantage of underage girls, what is the Gospel industry coming to?

Many Kenyans are questioning the legitimacy of many celebrated Christians in the country who are using religion to judge and condemn others while hiding behind it to cover up and justify their evil deeds. With the recent turn of events involving perceived staunch Christians, one would think the whole gospel industry is possessed; what with blame being thrown at the devil left, right and center. Hardly any time went by after the release of the Hope Kid and DK Kwenye Beat rape scandal than a young girl came out to expose a man of the cloth on social media.

She recounts a rather disturbing occurence between her, her friends and the Pastor Ken Gomeri. She gives a disclaimer that she is not trying to discredit the pastor but feels it’s her duty to expose him because their silence may have enabled him to take advantage of more girls.

Purity does not mince her words in the expose she released on Saturday which highlights the pastor’s sexual appetite for the underage girls and his indulgence in wordly pleasures including encouraging drinking, pornography, orgies and manipulation. According to Purity, she – alongside two other friends, then all between 18 and 19 years old – had gone to buy dinner at a popular mall on Thika Road in June 2016 where they bumped into the pastor.

As she recounts the events of the next few days, she accuses him of allegedly trying to solicit the girls for sex three years ago, talking about “being hard” and “fivesomes” and touching them inappropriately. She confirms that they were afraid and one of them even started ‘silent crying’.

She appealed to women who have a similar story to share their experience in order to protect other girls. The story made it to National headlines as NTV ran it under the title “Preying Preachers”.

According to the Sexual Offences Act 2006, a person who attempts to commit an act which would cause penetration with a child is guilty of an offence termed as attempted defilement. Similarly, a person who commits an offence of attempted defilement with a child is liable upon conviction to imprisonment for a term of not less than ten years. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has asked for information that may lead to the arrest of a Kenyan pastor accused of taking advantage of young girls. “If you have information and evidence relating to the same please send it to publiccomplaints@odpp.go.ke,” the ODPP tweeted.

The level of moral decay being portrayed by the servants of the Lord does put a lot of concern on the state of the gospel industry in the country. People are no longer choosing naivety and turning a blind eye but instead they are questioning their leaders and holding them accountable for their actions. Justice must prevail.
