KFC receipt leads to probe of new Dusit suspect related to Gichunge

Dusit D2 attack has made a reputation of of arresting and setting free supects suspected to be involved in the horrific siege that left 21 dead and many injured.

In latest development,a Nairobi court on Monday detained a Somali national for 30 days over his possible involvement in aiding and abetting the January 15, 2019 terrorist attack at 14 Riverside Drive.

The Anti-Terrorism Police Unit are investigating Yakub Issa Ahmed for a possible connection with the attack mastermind, Ali Salim Gichunge, after he was implicated by an ETR receipt recovered during a raid at Gichunge’s house in Muchatha, Kiambu County.

An affidavit by the investigating officer states that a day before the attack, the ETR receipt showed Gichunge had bought food from a KFC outlet on Limuru road and that the suspect was captured by the establishment’s CCTV at the counter placing an order at the time indicated in the receipt.

Mean while seventeen youths arrested on suspicion of being members of Al-Shabaab terror group have been unconditionally released by a Kwale court.

The youths, aged between 18 and 28, were arrested on January 28, in a two-bedroom house in Samburu, Kwale County.

Police had on Tuesday last week requested to hold the suspects for one week to allow conclusion of investigations.
