Wiper party dismisses divorce claims from anti-Kalonzo rebellion leader

Days after Wiper MPs  turned the tables against the interim party chairman Prof Kivutha Kibwana and want him to resign from the party and seek a fresh mandate, Kibwana has finally stepped down.

However, Wiper Democratic Movement has dismissed claims that Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has resigned as party chairman.

This comes a day after Prof. Kibwana dared the party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to remove him for being critical over what he termed as lack of democracy.

On Friday, the party secretary general Judith Sijeny said there has been no formal communication showing that Prof. Kibwana has resigned.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Ms. Sijeny however accused Kivutha of dishonesty regarding his claims of being fought within the party and decisions made without consultation.

According to her, the party chairman has not been involved fully in party matters particularly Musyoka’s move to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta on the Big Four Agenda and Building Bridges initiative.

In December last year, Prof. Kibwana voiced his criticism of the Uhuru-Kalonzo talks terming them as ‘unhelpful’.

He was reacting to among other things, a meeting held at State House between the President and leaders from the Wiper Democratic Movement.

“Even when we got a chance to visit State House recently, we did not prepare adequately to engage the President in a development dialogue the way the National Super Alliance leader is doing,” Prof. Kibwana said as quoted in the Daily Nation.
