AU envoy Raila Odinga has shared pictures on social media in which he met with the widow to iconic Tanzanian founding President Julius Nyerere. The former Prime Minister said that it was Pleasant meeting with Mama Maria Nyerere at her Dar home.
He added that the former first lady was in high spirits and they “had a great discussion on the shared history of our two nations”

Maria Nyerere, who is fondly called Mama Maria, in the Tanzania media served as the inaugural First Lady of Tanzania from 1964 to 1985.
The 88 year old lady currently serves as one of ten members of the council of elders of the Alliance for Tanzania Youth Economic Empowerment (Atyee), which also includes former Union President Ali Hassan Mwinyi and former Zanzibar President Amani Abeid Karume.
Raila was accompanied by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja.
