Why Was Arsenal Legend Thierry Henry SACKED? Expert Reveals Reasons For Monaco Axing

The Arsenal legend lasted only 104 days in his first head coach’s job and managed only two league wins.

The World Cup winner showed the strain by calling a Strasbourg player’s grandmother a “whore” during a 5-1 home defeat last weekend before going on a postmatch rant over VAR.

Johnson understands senior players turned against Henry and demanded the board show him the door.

That’s after they felt Henry showed them a lack of respect as Monaco slipped to 19th in the Ligue 1 table.

“I think it was always going to be a massive challenge for Henry, the situation he was walking into,” Johnson told the Transfer Talk podcast.

“Monaco were not in a good state when he took them over and things haven’t turned round.

“Monaco‘s results haven’t picked up and he’s not been able to win the squad over.

“Yes, he’s added a couple of members to the group during the January transfer window, but the senior members of the squad don’t feel happier playing under him than they were during the end of Leonardo Jardim’s time in charge.

“A lot of the players felt that his behaviour didn’t befit that of a top club’s coach.

“They went to the Monaco hierarchy and asked them to make a decision at that moment.

“He’s now suspended but a suspension like this in France means it’s a suspension with a view to a sacking.

“He has been sacked, he has been dismissed as Monaco coach, and he won’t be coming back.

“It’s just a question of Monaco getting in his replacement which is likely to be Leonardo Jardim, the coach he replaced.

“Then it’s a question of whether they have to pay the full compensation, like they would have to have done in normal circumstances.

“It’s not been an easy couple of months and not a great introduction to coaching for Henry. He may well have learnt some valuable lessons from this experience.”

Henry was on the shortlist for the Aston Villa job before taking the gamble of moving to the struggling Monte Carlo club on October 13.
