Kariobangi Sharks Overcome a tricky Mbao FC to Set an All Kenyan Sportpesa Cup Finals

A Kenyan team will win the 3rd edition of the Sportpesa Cup after Kariobangi Sharks overcame a tricky Tanzanian side Mbao FC in the semis to set up an all Kenyan affair in the finals with Bandari FC.

This year’s tournament is sure to have a new winner after Mbao FC stunned two times winners Gor Mahia in the quarter finals on Tuesday afternoon. And the little known were about to repeat their heroics against Sharks after holding them to a barren draw in regular time.

Sharks started the Penalties on the wrong foot after Captain Patillah’s Omotto’s spot kick was saved. But the coach William Mluya coached side calmed their nerves to score their other six penalties as their opponents missed two.

Earlier on Bandari had stunned tournament favorites Simba SC 2-1 in the first semis. This will be the second time that Kenyans teams are meeting in the finals after Gor beat AFC Leopards in 2017.

This development also confirms that EPL side Everton FC will be coming to Nairobi in the summer to face a KPL side. East Africa should expect a pulsating final between two of the best teams in Kenya at the moment.
