It was established Michael was the ANC leader’s son who was rescued alongside several others a few hours after news about the DusitD2 attack hit the airwaves. Thanks to a swift response from a multi-agency security team which arrived at the smoky and frightening scene in a matter of minutes, lives of more than 700 civilians were saved.

There were a few dramatic moments during the high-level rescue operation which involved meticulous frisking of every individual as the security officers gradually closed in on the assailants inside the seven-storey building. Michael’s time to be screened for any dangerous weapons finally came but none of the security men appeared to recognise the son of Mudavadi even as he repeatedly told them his name.
