State comes to the rescue of family to GSU officer killed in Dusit D2 raid

Family to the fallen General Service Unit(GSU) Japhet Nduguja set to have a new home after the government deployed hundreds of inmates from Manyani Maximum Security, Wundanyi GK, Voi, and Taveta Remand Prisons will construct a house.

The 25-year-old General Service Unit (GSU) officer, who hailed from Kimala Ndiweni village on the outskirts of Taveta town, was the only police felled by terrorists during the security operation at  Riverside Dusit D2 Hotel.

A government source revealed that the house was being built in his honour for the distinguished services he rendered to the country.

However, Taveta Deputy County Commissioner Charles Kamande divulged that the Government will only be providing labour.

Before the tragedy, Nduguja had reportedly already bought building materials and was planning to take his annual leave in 2019 to start construction of his house.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Police Spokesperson Tony Munga  revealed that the government would cater for the funeral as is the case of officers who died working in the disciplined services.

Sources indicate that the government offers at least Kshs 100,000 for a Constable, the lowest ranking officer in the police service.

Members of the Kenya Police Sacco reportedly benefit from an additional Kshs 70,000.

As part of gratuity, families of police officers reportedly receive a lump sum payment equivalent to eight years of their kin’s salary which may amount to Kshs 2 million.
