Manchester United have Identified the Next Marcus Rashford but he won’t be cheap

Manchester United are reportedly chasing a deal for Portuguese strike wonderkid Joao Felix, claim Portuguese newspaper Record.

This is Felix’s breakthrough season and he has made a big impact.

Here are five facts about the potential United addition…

1) Felix is 19-years-old and plays for Benfica. In nine league games including five starts this season he has scored four goals.

2) The teenager has played as a central striker but like Marcus Rashford he is adaptable and has made three of his starts on the left of a three-man attack. In the youth side he was more of an attacking midfielder.

3) He would not be available on the cheap. Metro report Felix has a 120 million Euro release clause in his contract (£106m). He signed a new deal in November which runs until 2023.

4) Felix has impressed United first hand. He played against the Red Devils in the UEFA Youth League last season for Benfica’s under-19s and managed to get on the scoresheet.

5) Clubs across Europe are circling. Everton, West Ham, Chelsea and Liverpool have been linked over the past few months and Record report Barcelona are now showing interest along with United.

Joao Felix is a terrific prospect – but there is only a small sample size in the first team to go on. This is important considering Benfica would want a huge fee.

While they would settle for less than his £106m release clause, even a move of £30-40 million may be considered excessive just yet.
