In news that has renewed and strengthened the Kenyan spirit again is the one all the way from Mumbai where Kenyan athlete Cosmas Kiplimo Lagat has made 2nd history in Mumbai marathon.

It was an entire 16th year history as  when Lagat won the race on Sunday after clocking 2:09:15, in addition bagging ksh 4.5 million.

Speaking to the media, Lagat confessed that although energetic, he covered the final 10km of the race in fear.

“It was a good moment to make a break, but I also knew there were good runners behind me.

“From 35km, I was never sure how close they were to me or whether they were coming back to me,” he added.

His record came second after Gideon Kipketer’s 2:08:35 in the 2016 Mumbai Marathon which remains unchallenged.

During the Sunday’s race, Ethiopia’s Aychew Bantie and Aklnew Shumet finished second and third respectively with times of 2:10:05 and 2:10:14.

In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Worknesh Alemu won after clocking 2:25:45 drawing close to the 2013 record set by Kenya’s Valentine Kipketer who clocked 2:24:33.

Kenyan long-distance runner Eliud Kipchoge holds the world marathon record by clocking ran 2:01:39 at the Berlin Marathon becoming the first person in history to go under 2:02:00.
